Paille doing a killer job since trade
By Brendan Hall, Boston Globe – At the time of the trade for Daniel Paille Oct. 20, the Bruins ranked among the league’s worst penalty-killing units. Two months later, as they head into today’s late-afternoon visit to Florida, they sit at the very top.
Coincidence?
No one is about to directly credit Paille (dealt for third- and fourth-round draft picks) for the improvement, or even compare him to past Bruins specialists such as P.J. Axelsson. But his penalty-killing abilities were certainly one of the motives in picking him up. With his speed and sharp skating skills, given the minimal room playing up top in shorthanded situations, he has been a reliable reinforcement.
“Every game, we study [the opponent’s] power play, and it’s not the same all the time,’’ Paille said. “But I think we just keep being aggressive out there, and it’s helped with being strong on the puck, trying to win most of those battles.’’
