O’Neill headlining Alumni Game
GUELPH — Jeff O’Neill spent 11 seasons as a star in the National Hockey League, but he will never forget the three he spent riding the bus as a member of the Guelph Storm.
“I have great memories of here,” O’Neill, 33, said Tuesday in the Storm dressing room at the Sleeman Centre. “We’re all older guys now, but we all have fond memories of our junior careers. The friendships you gain in junior are almost more memorable than anywhere else in life for some reason.”
O’Neill and fellow Storm alumni Chris Hajt, Andrew Long and Regan Stocco were on hand to announce the team’s first ever alumni game that will be part of the team’s 20th anniversary celebrations next year.
The game, and a corresponding skills competition, will take place June 12. Prior to the game there will be an autograph signing outside the Sleeman Centre. There will also be some players-only events the day prior and the day after the alumni game.
