No time to rest: Sparks busy in net
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury – Garret Sparks is reaping the benefits of all those boring, tiring dry-land workouts last summer back in Illinois.
The Guelph Storm is now riding the 18-year-old American like a fairground pony.
He’s started 18 consecutive games and on four occasions this season has played three games in three days. That isn’t about to change.
With backup Brandon Foote not playing well, then getting injured, the team’s reliance on Sparks to lead the way to a playoff spot isn’t about to waver.
“We have confidence in him, we think he’s a great goalie, but this is uncharted territory for him,” Walker said. “In minor hockey, he was a 50/50 goalie all his life.”
Last year as a rookie, Sparks started three games before January, then 12 after. He has already doubled his playing minutes from last year.
