New Dman lands in Guelph
The Guelph Storm has a new defenceman. We think.
Sam Lofquist, a 19-year-old Wisconsin native, practiced with the team Wednesday at the Sleeman Centre. Earlier this week, he left the University of Minnesota, where he was in his second year of a hockey scholarship.
But the team won’t or can’t discuss Lofquist right now.
“I can’t really comment on it right now,” coach/general manager Jason Brooks said Wednesday during practice.
“He’s obviously here in Guelph right now, and right now that’s all I can say.”
The logical assumption is that the team is waiting for some official paperwork to be finalized before the 6-foot-2, 200-pound right shooting blueliner officially becomes a member of the team.
After practice, Lofquist introduced himself but politely declined an interview.
A brief posting on the University of Minnesota hockey team’s website said Lofquist had left the school’s team.
