Matt’s the Man in Owen Sound

Shutting out the Attack in Owen Sound became a tradition of Garret Sparks and Storm rookie Matt Mancina picked up where the former team MVP left off as he kicked aside 35 Attack shots for his first career shutout. 

Tomorrow evening, Guelph will look to make it two in a row when they face the first place Erie Otters at the Sleeman Centre in a 6:30 pm start.  The Otters knocked off the London Knights on Saturday night in a shootout to build an eight point lead atop the OHL standings.

In Owen Sound, Robby Fabbri scored for the fifth straight game before adding his second of the contest and it was all the offence that the visitors would need as Mancina was terrific between the pipes.  Scott Kosmachuk made it 3-0 Guelph after 20 minutes.  The first frame was all Storm as they peppered Brandon Hope with 18 shots compared to nine by the home side.

The Attack rebounded over the final two periods to eventually even up the shots on goal, but they couldn’t solve the Tecumseh, Ontario native in the Guelph goal.  Late in the third with the net empty, Jason Dickinson fed a streaking Pius Suter to cap off the scoring with 93 seconds left in regulation.
