Three Waterdown District High School students have taken their game to the next level, making the cut at the May 3 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft.
Goaltender Mark Visentin, centre forward Cam Jude and right defenseman Brayden McLean have honed their skills on the ice and are ready to show off their talents at this summer’s OHL training camps in hopes of making the teams that selected them.
Visentin was the third-round pick for the Niagara Ice Dogs, while Guelph Storm nabbed Jude from the Halton Hurricanes in the 14th round. McLean was taken by Belleville in the 15th.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” said Jude, adding that all three players share the goal of making it into the provincial league.
Visentin first laced up to play house league hockey and soon found his place in front of the net as the team goalie.
Now 15, he made his way up the hockey ranks to play for the Flamborough Sabres AA rep team. He has since moved on to play with the Halton Hurricanes.
Jude’s hockey career also began at an early age, when the centre forward started skating on a pond in Quebec where he grew up.
After moving to Ontario, he joined a local house league and, like Visentin, played with the AA Flamborough Sabres for his first season of rep hockey.
