Jr. Storm Reporter – Josh Brander
Thanks to the Guelph Storm, I was fortunate to be a Junior Reporter for the exciting game between the Guelph Storm and Saginaw Spirit on Friday, February 4. It was an amazing game ending in a 4-3 win in a shoot-out. I chose to interview Michael Giugovaz because am a goalie and I love watching him – especially his awesome penguin/superman dive after they won!
Who is your favourite NHL player, past or present?
My favourite goalie is Ron Hextall – he’s crazy and energetic to watch.
What is your favourite time playing for the storm to date?
The time we shut out London (Knights) on January 13 because we had a great game and brought it together.
Who is your least favourite opponent in the OHL?
Probably Erie (Otters) because they have always had my number and playing in their rink is tough.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Not really. It has just become a habit becoming prepared.
If you could change the number on your jersey, what would it be?
I would pick 60, because my mom loves that number.
Which of your teammates keeps you laughing?
They are all pretty outgoing; it’s hard to single one guy out.
If you couldn’t play hockey, what sport would you play and why?
Golf, it’s just so relaxing. It is hard to play but you always play in nice weather.
What do you plan to do after your hockey career?
I have no idea, I haven’t thought that far yet.
What music do you have on your iPod?
Country, or good classic throwback rap song like 50 cent.
What is your greatest fear?
I think the fear of death because you have no idea what happens after.
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
I would be a grizzly bear, because they get to sleep all winter, and there pretty big vicious animals.
What is your favourite place to eat in Guelph?
I like the Western bar – its good food!
What is your favourite movie?
Serendipity – it’s a love story.
What was your favourite subject in school?
I didn’t love school so I would have to go with Gym.
What was the last book you read?
I have been reading all of the Nicholas Sparks books. The last one I read was Safe Haven.
Do you have any hobbies?
During the season just regular practices and relaxing and during the summer playing golf and staying outside.
How will you spend Valentine’s Day?
Probably here (Sleeman center for a practice) in the morning, and then I’ll maybe go home and visit my girlfriend.
What do you say to OHL hopefuls?
Just keep working hard and believe in yourself; confidence is everything – if you don’t believe in yourself, it’s not really a dream.
