Game Three of the Subway Super Series in Guelph is SOLD OUT
Game three of the Subway Super Series in Guelph tonight is completely SOLD OUT! Game time is 7:00pm and will be broadcaost on Sportsnet. The QMJHL evened up the series last night with a 5-2 win over the Russians. Team OHL looks to take a 2-1 lead in the series tonight at the Sleeman Centre. Storm players Matt Finn and Zack Mitchell will suit up for Team OHL.
Florida Panthers prospect Jonathan Huberdeau, along with top 2013 NHL Entry Draft prospects Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads combined for 11 points to lead the Team QMJHL offence to a 5-2 win in front of 2,492 fans at the Centre Air Creebec in Game 2 of the SUBWAY Super Series.
The win ends a five-game losing streak for Team QMJHL against Team Russia, and ties the 2012 SUBWAY Super Series at 1-1 (3-3 in points).
It took Team QMJHL all of 59 seconds to open the scoring in the second instalment of the SUBWAY Super Series. Francis Beauvillier (RIM) took control of the puck before cutting to the slot and blasting a wrist shot past Andrei Vasilevski.
Team Russia tied the score at one when Andrei Sigarev was the last player to touch a puck that took two awkward bounces before finding the back of the net. Both teams retreated to their dressing rooms tied at one after 20 minutes of play.
Jonathan Huberdeau (SNB) and Nathan MacKinnon (HAL) were the stories in the second period. Both players broke away on the Russian goaltender at 3:51 displaying slick back and forth passing with Huberdeau burying his first of the series.
The Sea Dogs’ forward registered his second goal off another MacKinnon feed before the end of the second frame to put Team QMJHL up 3-1.
In the third period, MacKinnon continued his stellar play by pouncing on his own rebound to push the Team QMJHL lead to three at 5:56. Jonathan Drouin (HAL) picked up his third assist of the game on the marker.
It took all of 30 seconds for Team Russia to cut into the lead. Vladimir Tkachev broke away and wristed a perfect shot behind goaltender François Brassard (QUE).
Drouin recorded his first goal and fourth point of the night with just over four minutes left in the game. Not surprisingly, Huberdeau and MacKinnon notched the assists on the goal.
MacKinnon was named the player of the game for Team QMJHL after registering four points while Andrei Sigarev was rewarded for Team Russia.
Zachary Fucale (HAL) made nine saves, while Brassard stopped 14 shots. Tampa Bay Lightning first round pick Andrei Vasilevski made 27 saves in the loss.
Game 3 of the 2012 SUBWAY Super Series continues Thursday in Guelph when Team OHL hosts Team Russia.
