From the Stands: Guelph Storm start quite encouraging
By Paul Osborne, Guelph Mercury
It took the Guelph Storm 16 tries before they won their second game last season, so with wins in their first two games this year, they are off to a flying start.
The Storm opened their season with a 5-1 win over Saginaw on home ice Friday night, and then in the return match Saturday downed the Spirit 2-1 on the road.
In both games goaltender Liam Herbst was a major factor taking second and first star honours, respectively, in the two games. Herbst made 35 saves in the opener and then 40 saves in the second match allowing the Storm to steal two points.
“I thought we were a little on our heels on Saturday night and our execution was off and our attention to detail was a little off, but Liam Herbst gave us a chance to the win the hockey game,” said head coach Jarrod Skalde.
The Storm played a much better all around game at home and were full marks for the 5-1 victory. Fans could see the up-tempo style of game that Skalde and his coaches are urging them to play.
