Bad Knight for Storm
Saturday night in front of a home crowd just shy of 4,000, two struggling clubs squared off and combined for three goals combined in the game’s first 40 minutes before a busy third period that saw the London Knights score three times and grab a 5-3 decision.
After giving up the lone first period goal on a neutral zone turnover the Jared Knight capitalized on, the Storm would even the contest at one with their first of two powerplay goals when Taylor Beck notched his 12th of the season. The Knights answered back less than four minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
A busy third saw the visitors extend their lead to 4-1 in the first 3:04 before Carter Sandlak one-timed a Beck feed over Michael Houser shorthanded to cut the lead to two. London wasted little time replying again with first star Seth Griffith scooping up another turnover and snapping it past Brandon Foote to make it 5-2. Guelph would finish the scoring on the man advantage on a nice effort by Tyler Carroll, but despite some late pressure it was too little too late for the hosts.
The Storm will play their third in three days tomorrow when they travel to Erie to take on the Otters in a 4:30 start. Then next Friday, it’s an exciting event at the Sleeman Centre when Guelph hosts the Oshawa Generals with special jerseys to recognize Jessica’s Footprint and a milestone event for the local charity as they celebrate the million dollar plateau for fundraising.
