Storm riding high into Kitchener Rangers tilt
GUELPH — Nate Schnarr was caught off guard when informed that he was in the thick of the Ontario Hockey League scoring race.
“That’s pretty cool,” said the Guelph Storm forward. “I actually didn’t even know I was right up there.”
But the humble Arizona Coyotes third-round draft pick is quick to deflect the attention.
“I’ve just been lucky to be in the right situation,” Schnarr said. “Our power play was clicking early in the season and my linemates have been setting me up perfectly. It’s an honour to be there, especially in an elite league. But in the end it’s all about the team.”
Yes, the team.
That’d be the Western Conference-contending Guelph Storm, who started the season with two losses only to answer with an impressive 6-1 streak.
The Sleeman Centre squad saunters into the Aud to clash with the Kitchener Rangers on Friday night and then hosts its Highway 7 rivals Sunday in the Royal City. Kitchener has a game against London wedged in between.
A lot is going right in Guelph.
The team underachieved last season by finishing seventh — and two points out of eighth — in the west before bowing out in the first round of the playoffs to the Rangers.
