Storm explode for seven goals to finally solve the Kitchener Rangers

The most underutilized piece of equipment at the Sleeman Centre this season has been the stereo in the Guelph Storm dressing room.
Used only after wins, it has sat silent most game nights in what has been a trying campaign to say the least.
But it was belting out The Outfield’s “I Don’t Want To Lose Your Love Tonight” Sunday afternoon after the suddenly competitive Storm downed the fourth-ranked Kitchener Rangers 7-3 in front of 4,500.
“I was getting sick and tired of going into the dressing room and everyone just being upset,” said Storm goaltender Michael Giugovaz, who led the way with a 43-save performance on Sunday.
“It’s nice looking up at that shot clock and seeing such a high number and so few goals against,” Giugovaz said. “Winning’s great. Winning’s contagious. Hopefully we can just keep this going.”
It was Guelph’s first win in six games against the Rangers this season. It was also just their third win at home and the first time they have scored seven goals in a game.
Unlike Friday’s game in Kitchener, when Guelph had the lead before losing 3-2, the Storm bent but didn’t break in this one.
“We should have won in Kitchener. It’s learning curves, we blew that lead, but we weren’t losing this one. The boys played a hell of a game,” Giugovaz said. “We weathered the Storm.”
Guelph jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, chasing Kitchener goaltender Dawson Carty with three goals on the first seven shots he saw.
