Storm drop first of three on Eastern swing, fall 4-2 to Petes
It was one of those nights where maybe the Guelph Storm deserved better.
Falling 4-2 to the Peterborough Petes on the first of a three-game road trip through the Eastern Conference on Thursday night, the Storm won on the shot clock, outshooting the Petes 46-29, but not on the scoreboard.
Cedric Ralph, with one goal, earned third star honours, while for the Petes, Nikita Korostelev potted two goals and one assist for second star recognition, followed by goaltender Dylan Wells as the game’s first star after turning aside 44 of 46 shots in the win.
Ralph opened the scoring to make it 1-0 just past the halfway mark in the first, however, the Petes won the period, responding just under four minutes after with a goal from Pavel Gogolev, and later taking a 2-1 lead off of Korostelev’s power play tally with 57 seconds remaining in the frame.
The Storm struck back in the latter half of the second, with Cam Hillis netting his 15th goal of the season, tying the game up at two-a-piece. It was another efficient response from the Petes, though, as Bobby Dow posted his sixth of the year on the power play to give the home squad the lead once again three minutes later.
The Petes sealed the deal in the final minutes of the third, grabbing an empty netter to make it a 4-2 final.
The Storm are right back in action on Friday night, visiting the Kingston Frontenacs.
