Storm add OHL Graduate Scott Simmonds to coaching staff
Guelph, ON – Guelph Storm General Manager George Burnett announced today that Scott Simmonds has been hired as an Assistant Coach.
“We are excited to add Scott to our group and complete our coaching staff for the new season,” said Burnett. “I am confident that Scott will be an excellent fit and complement both Cory (Stillman) and Rob (Davison) most effectively.”
The Uxbridge, Ontario native played four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2010-2014 where he suited up 245 career regular season and 21 playoff games, all with the Belleville Bulls. Following his tenure in the OHL, Simmonds joined the University of Guelph Gryphons for five seasons where he won an OUA Championship and USports bronze medal in 2014-2015 and captained the team for his final three seasons from 2016-2019. After graduating from the Gryphons program, Simmonds played professional hockey in England with the Manchester Storm for five seasons before returning to his alma mater at the University of Guelph as an Assistant Coach for the 2023-2024 OUA season.
“I’m very excited to join the coaching staff of the Guelph Storm and for the opportunity to work with Cory, Rob and the entire Storm staff. The emphasis on development and building a strong team environment resonates with me and I am eager to get started,” said Simmonds. “I have deep connections within this community through my five years at the University of Guelph as a student-athlete and most recently as a coach that will make this next step extra special.”
The Club also confirms that Goaltending Coach Rob Beatty and Skills Development Coach Corey Locke will be returning to their roles for the upcoming season.
