GUELPH – Guelph Storm General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett has announced that the Storm have acquired forward Brayden Guy and defenceman Ashton Reesor from the Sarnia Sting in exchange for forward Marko Sikic and Flint’s 3rd round pick in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.
Guy, a six-foot, 194-pound winger from Brampton, Ontario was a third round pick (45th overall) by the Sting in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. The overage winger has tallied 182 regular-season games through parts of four seasons with Sarnia, registering 91 points (49 goals, 42 assists). This season, Guy has 6 goals and 5 assists for 11 points through 21 games while serving as the Sting’s captain. Before playing in the OHL, Guy was a product of the Brampton 45’s AAA program and suited up for the GOJHL’s Brampton Bombers during the 2016-17 season.
“A veteran power forward that works and competes on a very high level, Brayden has shown the ability to score and play the game successfully in a number of different ways,” Burnett said. “The leader and captain of his team, he will provide a great example to our young group.”
“I’m incredibly thankful and excited for the new opportunity here in Guelph,” said Guy.” I’m looking forward to getting things started and help lead this young team and city to another deep playoff run. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, the fans, and make an impact on the community in Guelph.”
Reesor, a six-foot-three, 198-pound defenceman from Markham, Ontario was a fifth round pick (88th overall) by the Sting in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. Suiting up for 96 games through parts of four seasons with the Sting, the 2001-born defenseman has registered 24 points (3 goals, 21 assists) in his OHL career. In 23 games this season, Reesor has posted one goal and eight assists for nine points as an overage player with the Sting. Before joining the Sting, Reesor was a product of the Vaughan Kings AAA program and played for the OJHL’s Stouffville Spirit during the 2017-18 season.
“Also a leader with his team, Ashton brings an excellent combination of size, physicality, ability to move the puck, and effectively play against top players throughout the league,” said Burnett. “We are excited to add both players our club and they are expected to join the Storm immediately for practice.”
“I’m excited and looking forward for the opportunity to play in Guelph. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and the coaching staff and I look forward to helping my new team go on a playoff run,” Reesor said.
