Ottawa ends Guelph’s win streak at two
Brady Stonehouse led the Ottawa 67’s to a 5-3 victory over the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Stonehouse scored a short-handed goal late in the second period and added an insurance marker with an empty-netter in the final minute of play.
With the victory, Ottawa improves their record to 22-5-0-1 and Guelph drops to 11-16-2-1. The 67’s get back in the win column after losing their last two games, while the Storm’s win-streak comes to an end at two games.
Vinzenz Rohrer opened the scoring four minutes into the first period on a one-timer, receiving the cross crease pass from from Chris Barlas to beat Guelph goaltender Dixon Grimes. The goal was Rohrer’s 11th goal of the 2022-23 season.
Jake Karabela evened the game up at one on a two man advantage when he batted a rebound out of mid air and into the back of the net. The goal was Karabela’s seventh of the season, he’s scored first for Guelph in back-to back days.
Brad Gardiner gave the 67’s a 2-1 lead when he scored on the two man advantage with 18.1 seconds left in the first period on a shot that made its way past Grimes on his glove side.
The 67’s scored a pair of goals late in the second period to put the game out of reach. Brady Stonehouse added on to the lead when he scored a short-handed goal on a break away with 4:33 remaining in the second period. It was Stonehouse’s second short-handed goal of the season.
Under three minutes later, Cooper Foster potted what would end up as the game-winner, scoring another goal for Ottawa to boost their lead to three goals heading into the second intermission.
Guelph scored a pair of goals in the middle part of the third period, but were unable to complete the comeback effort. Cedricson Okitundu fired a wrist shot from the point that beat 67’s goaltender Max Donoso 9:57 into the third period. The goal was challenged by Ottawa, but it would stand as Okitundu’s fourth goal of the season
Braeden Bowman scored his fifth goal of the season just 2:44 later, tipping-in a shot that was fired from the point by defenceman Jake Murray.
Ottawa right winger Brady Stonehouse potted an empty-net goal with 54.2 seconds left on the clock to seal the deal in this game. The goal was his second of the game and team-leading 15th of the season.
The Storm will have to wait until next season to get retribution against the 67’s, Ottawa defeated Guelph in both games between the teams in the 2022-23 regular season.

The Storm will get some time to rest before their next game, when they play host to the Barrie Colts on Friday, December 16th at 7:30pm. On Saturday, they’ll face off against the Soo Greyhounds for the annual Brent Johnson Wayne Pitman Teddy Bear Toss game, the puck drops at 2:00pm.
