Holiday Wrap Up
Each season the Guelph Storm is proud to partner with many local organizations to support local not-for-profits in the community, as a way to give back to those who give the Storm so much.
The Guelph Storm would like to sincerely thank all the fans and members of the community who participated in the many charitable events throughout the first half of the season. Whether you were one of many volunteers who helped make these events possible, or you generously donated to the causes, you helped make a difference in the Guelph community ahead of the holiday season.
Food Drive sponsored by Brent Johnson of Wayne Pitman Ford
Brent Johnson of Wayne Pitman Ford’s annual Food Drive in support of the Guelph Food Bank took place on Sunday, October 29th as the Storm took on the Ottawa 67’s. Storm fans showed their generosity by donating over 4530 pounds of food for families in the Guelph community. In addition to the non-perishable food donations, over $7,000 raised from the PAW Patrol jersey auction went to the Guelph Food Bank.
Winter Wear Drive for Hope House sponsored by Oosterveld Heating and Air Conditioning
Friday, November 10th was the Oosterveld Winter Wear Drive in support of Hope House. Storm fans generous donations of new and gently used winter wear clothing which filled the backs of two large pickup trucks.
Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Night
Friday, November 17th was Special Olympics Ontario Night at the Storm took on the Niagara IceDogs. Storm fans generously donated $2,400 during a pre-game Toonie Toss.
Books for Kids sponsored by GuelphToday.com
Friday, November 24th the Storm held the annual Books for Kids Night sponsored by GuelphToday.com. Storm fans generously donated over 800 books, giving the gift of reading this holiday season.
Pink in the Rink sponsored by Mark Wilson’s Better Used Cars
The Storm and Mark Wilson’s Better Used Cars held the annual Pink in the Rink game as the rival Rangers came to town for the first time this season. The Storm took the ice in pink jerseys that were later auctioned off, with all the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society Waterloo Wellington. The sale of commemorative t-shirts and the jersey auction helped to raise nearly $7,000.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Day sponsored by Owens Corning
On Sunday, December 3rd the Guelph Storm and Owens Corning Guelph teamed up to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph and Wellington. Volunteers were on hand selling bucket hats with every dollar going back to the organization. The bucket hat sales raised $2,250.
Zehrs Toy Drive in Support of the Salvation Army
The annual Zehrs Toy Drive in support of the Salvation Army was a huge success this year thanks to the generosity of Storm fans. Over 1,500 toys were collected, in addition to $1218 raised through the game’s second intermission Chuck-A-Puck.
Teddy Bear Toss sponsored by Brent Johnson of Wayne Pitman Ford
Saturday, December 16th the Storm took on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the annual Teddy Bear Toss Game sponsored by Brent Johnson of Wayne Pitman Ford. This year’s goal was scored by blueliner Michael Buchinger just under halfway through the second period. Michael’s goal brought on a Storm of 3,775 bears to the ice. The Storm would like to thank Stone Road Mall and PetSmart Guelph for their generous donations of plush toys to the game.
