Fashion Lighting Player Spotlight – Chase Coughlan
Born in Toronto, Ont., six-teen-year-old Chase Coughlan was drafted 59th overall in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. Prior to his time with the Storm Chase played with the Toronto Marlboros U16 AAA. The 5’10, 190lbs., forward has appeared in 35-games so far this season nothing 4-goals and 2-assists.
HOW IT STARTED
Q: When and how did you become involved in hockey?
A: “At a young age my parents put me into Timbits hockey and ever since then I loved the game. As I got older my dream of playing in the NHL and my love for the game continued to grow.”
Q: Are there any players you style your game after, and if so, who?
A: “I would say Tom Wilson and Zach Hyman. Both are really good two-way players, 200ft players, and work extremely hard.”
Q: Who would you say is your biggest support system?
A: “Definitely my family. My mom and dad, they support me in any way possible. Whether it was driving me to the rink or giving me advice. My sister as well, she has always been there for me.”
HOW IT’S GOING
Q: How has your experience in Guelph been so far?
A: “It’s been really fun, getting to know my new teammates has been awesome. It’s been nice getting to know the city.”
Q: How would you describe the energy of this year’s team?
A: “I think we have a very energetic young group. The older guys have been helping us all a lot to understand the league and get prepared for the playoffs.”
Q: What motivates you to work hard?
A: “The end goal of playing in the NHL. Coming to the rink and working hard every day to help make that opportunity happen and to better myself both as an athlete and a person.”
LOOKING FORWARD
Q: What are you personally working on the most this season?
A: “Really working on everything. My shots, skating, speed. Trying to get better every day and get more familiar with the level of play in the OHL.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
A: “Hopefully playing in the NHL. It has been a dream of mine ever since I was a little kid.”
Q: What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone pursuing an OHL career?
A: “Come to the rink ready to work hard every day. This is a major opportunity that you get to come into the league. Don’t take advantage of it and keep trying to be better every day.”
