Tickets for this momentous international event will go on sale Monday, September 22nd starting at 10 am. Lower bowl, regular seating can be purchased for $20, lower bowl club seats are available at $25 and VIP’s are $30 each. All Guelph Storm Season ticket holders will receive a special season ticket holder rate of $15 if seats are purchased by Tuesday, November 11th at 5:00 pm. If season ticket holders do not purchase their seats by the November 11th deadline, they will be released for public sale.
The six game series will open on Monday, November 17th when the QMJHL will host Team Russia in Cape Breton. After a second game versus the QMJHL, the series will shift to the OHL and specifically the Royal City, as Team Russia squares off against the top OHL prospects for Team Canada at the Sleeman Centre.
A few Storm players have represented Canada in the Canada-Russia Challenge including Ryan Parent, who went on to win a pair of gold medals in 2006 and 2007. Last season, Drew Doughty played in his second consecutive ADT Canada-Russia Challenge before earning a spot on Team Canada and capturing gold in January.
In existence since 2003, the challenge consists of six exhibition games in which a team of Russian Junior all-stars will compete against CHL all-stars representing each of the three regional leagues. All-star squads from the OHL, Western Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will each play and host two games against the Russians, with the OHL splitting their host sites between an Eastern and Western Conference team.
The OHL player representatives will be chosen in late October with all non-overage, Canadian-born players eligible to compete. Hockey Canada will play a role in the selection process and will evaluate players throughout the series in preparation of the final selection process for the 2009 World Junior championships.
