Actions speak louder than words in bid for playoff spot
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury – It will take more than dressing room rhetoric and profanity-fueled tirades to propel the Guelph Storm into the playoffs, but it’s start.
Prior to Thursday’s win in Sarnia, team captain Corey Syvret (pictured) made an impassioned plea to his teammates. Syvret, a relatively low-key individual, implored his Storm brethren to – not in so many words – get their act together.
“Corey made a speech saying it was his last year, that it all starts now because he doesn’t want to be done without making the playoffs and guys took that to heart,” said Michael Latta, shortly after scoring twice in Guelph’s 5-2 win.
A day earlier, at practice, assistant coach Chris Hajt let go a few loud F-bombs in imploring his team to practice harder and better, thus playing harder and better.
“March 13 is coming quicker than you think,” was an edited version of Hajt’s message, referring to the final game of the regular season.
