Guelph Storm Names Player of the Week
After having a great showing at the New York Rangers training camp and another great week with their AHL affiliate, the Hartford WolfPack, #24 Ryan Callahan was returned to the Storm for his overage season.
It didn’t take long for Callahan to get on the score sheet in his first game back. It took the Storm Captain only 1 minute and 34 seconds to score his first of the season. He didn’t stop there.
Ryan recorded a natural hat-trick (three straight goals) in the first period of the Friday night match up against the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Needless to say, Callahan earned 1st Star honours against the Soo and 2nd Star honours in Kitchener.
On Monday October 10th, Callahan recorded 1 goal and 1 assist against Highway 7 rivals, the Kitchener Rangers. Through two games, Callahan is +4 with 8 penalty minutes.
Honourable mention for the week goes to #29 Ryan MacDonald and #31 Jason Guy. MacDonald has been very strong since opening the 2005-06 season and was very sharp against Kitchener in Monday’s match up. He earned 1st Star for his 31 save performance.
Guy got the nod against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday night. After scoring the games first 3 goals, the Storm were heavily out shot. Jason stood very strong in net for the Storm, constantly turning away a hard-working Soo squad. Guy earned 2nd Star honours.
Stay tuned for next week’s Storm ‘Player of the Week.’
