Nigro Scores Overtime Winner to Lift Ontario to Finals
For Guelph Storm forward Anthony Nigro his first goal of the 2007 Canada Winter Games could not have come at a better time as he notched the OT winner versus British Columbia to help lift Ontario to the Gold Medal game. Ontario trailed 3-2 in the third period, before tying the game on a goal by Cody Hodgson of the Brampton Battalion. With the game tied at three in overtime, Nigro scored with 9:47 remaining in the first extra frame from Hodgson to give Ontario a 4-3 win.
In four tournament games, Nigro has one goal and four assists for Team Ontario. Nigro, along with Storm assistant coach Jason Brooks and Team Ontario are a perfect 4-0 in the tournament and will square off against Team Manitoba in the gold medal game on Friday at 7:30 pm local time.
The same two clubs met in the preliminary round with Ontario earning a 5-2 win. Friday night’s gold medal game will be broadcast live on TSN at 10:30 pm.
The Storm will honour Nigro and Brooks for representing Ontario prior to their next home game on Friday, March 9th versus the London Knights.
