Junior Reporter – Riley
Saturday, October 19 KIT @ GUE
My Name is Riley Grimes and I was the Jr Stormers Kids Club Junior Reporter on Saturday, October 19th as the Storm faced the Kitchener Rangers.
Before the warmups, I went on a tour of the media area at the Sleeman Centre. The tour started in the penalty box, where they control the time clock on the scoreboard. The next stop was the Media Room where media members could have a snack and prepare for the game. The last stop on the tour was the Press Box, where the TV and radio teams worked. This is also where they control the video scoreboard and make announcements. I even got to hold the microphone!
After the tour, I enjoyed a Domino’s Pizza while watching the Storm warm up. After the warmups, I got to go on the Mark Wilson’s BabyBoni. It was so much fun waving to the fans and having them wave back at me.
The game was so exciting. My favourite player, Jake Karabela, scored the first goal of the game. Parker Snelgrove scored the second goal to make it 2-0 for the Storm. The Rangers scored 2 goals to make it 2-2. Both teams didn’t score in overtime, so the game went to a shootout. In the shootout, Jake Karabela scored to start, but the Rangers scored twice and that was enough to win.
After the game, I was lucky to get the chance to ask my favourite player Jake Karabela 3 questions.
What skills do you have to work on to make it to the NHL?
“I think I have to work on my shot. A lot of guys have hard shots, and my shot isn’t as hard as theirs.”
What was your favourite NHL team growing up?
“I’m a Leafs fan! I like the Leafs”
How come you chose number 10?
“To be honest, I only had 4 choices. 10 was Lindsay’s favourite number (Lindsay Newby, Manager of Communications).”
I would like to thank Alice, Lisa, Domino’s Pizza and Mark Wilson’s for making my day so special. I especially want to thank Jake Karabela for taking the time to answer my questions.
