Storm acquire overage defenceman Jake Murray from the Frontenacs
Guelph, ON – Guelph Storm General Manager George Burnett has announced today that the Guelph Storm have acquired overage defenceman Jake Murray from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for Oshawa’s 4th round pick in 2024, Niagara’s 3rd round pick in 2025, and Guelph’s 3rd round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection.
“Jake brings tremendous experience, leadership, and the ability to play important minutes in all situations,” said General Manager George Burnett. “He will compliment our young blueline core and we are excited to see him in our line up tonight.”
The six-foot-three, 200-pound Murray was originally drafted by the Frontenacs in the 1st round, 13th overall in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The blueliner from Oakville, Ontario went on to spend 4 years in Kingston where he recorded 10 goals, 52 assists, 62 points and 55 penalty minutes in 193 career OHL games. Last season, as a 19-year-old, Murray tallied 5 goals and 32 assists for 37 points in 65 games and added 7 points in 11 playoff games for the Frontenacs where they lost in the second round to the North Bay Battalion. Murray has served as the Assistant Captain in Kingston since the 2019-20 season.
Prior to his OHL career, the 2002-born defenceman was a product of the Oakville Rangers AAA program and suited up for the OJHL’s Oakville Blades during the 2017-18 season. This fall, Murray attended the Dallas Stars’ main training camp and followed that up with 2 assists in 4 games to start his 2022-23 OHL campaign with the Frontenacs.
“I am super excited to be playing with such a young and skilled group,” said Murray. “I look forward to pursuing a championship with this team in my last year in the league.”
You can see Jake Murray and the rest of the Guelph Storm take on the Saginaw Spirit tonight at the Sleeman Centre for our annual Pink the Rink Game presented by Mark Wilson’s Better Used Cars. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
