Former Storm duo part of HBO’s 24/7
By Pat Leonard, New York Daily News – The Rangers have a reputation for being serious, disciplined and tight-lipped. Still, there are characters inside the Blueshirts locker room, and nine days from now, when HBO’s pre-Winter Classic 24/7 series premiers (Wednesday, Dec. 14, 10 p.m.), fans will see that the jokes can fly once the doors close – often from the least likely of sources.
Like Dan Girardi.
Rangers captain Ryan Callahan knows Girardi as well as anyone. Callahan and Girardi played Juniors together from 2002 to 2005 with the Guelph Storm, winning the Ontario Hockey League championship in 2003-04.

Daniel Girardi Guelph Storm bio… Acquired by the Storm in 2002 from the Barrie Colts in exchange for Malcolm MacMillan and Leonid Zvachkin, Girardi turned his junio career around in the Royal City earning the club’s Most Improved Player Award in his first season. Girardi went on to play 168 regular and post-season games in a Storm uniform notching a career high 47 points in the Storm’s 2003-04 season and adding 19 points in 22 post-season games as he helped lead the club to the OHL Championship. Girardi was voted to the All-Time Top 20 Players list for the Guelph Storm in 2010-11.
Ryan Callahan Guelph Storm bio… One of the all-time Storm greats, Callahan came to the Storm after being selected in the last round of the 2001 OHL Priority Selection. The Rochester native left his mark on Storm record book as he graduated among the career leaders in goals, assists and points. During his four seasons in Guelph, Callahan earned numerous awards including MVP (2004-05), Most Popular Player (04-05, 05-06), Top Scorer Award (04-05, 05-06), Rookie of the Year (02-03) and Leadership Award (05-06).
