Subway Super Series-The History-2007-2008
The Subway Super Series is coming to the Sleeman Centre! Game 3 will be played on Thursday November 8, 2012 at 7:00pm. This is the tenth year that regional teams of CHL All-Stars will compete against the Russian Junior Team as part of a six-game series. The History of the Super Series
2007
The Russians won the the first game of the 2007 series 6-4 over Team QMJHL. Team QMJHL came back in game two with a shut out win of 2-0. In Ontario, Team OHL won the first game 5-3 after trailing in the thrid period. Dale Mitchell and Nick Spaling, both of the Kitchener Rangers scored 27 seconds apart. Shawn Matthias scored a goal and had an assist in the 4-2 win over the Russians in game four. Team WHL lost their first game versus Russia 5-1 but came back for game six with a 4-1 win to finish the series with 4 wins for the CHL teams. 21 of those CHL players then went on the help Canada win its fourth straight gold medal at the World Junior Championships a couple of months later in the Czech Republic.
2008
In 2008 the CHL teams were victorious in five of their six games versus the Russians. Game one saw Team QMJHL with a 5-3 with the game winner being scored on a power play late in the second period by Angelo Esposito. In Game two the QMJHL team came up short with a 4-3 loss. Game three of the series was played at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph. Team OHL won their first game 6-3 with a hat trick for Cody Hodgson. John Tavares had 2 goals and an assist as well. Peter Holland and Anthony Nigro of the Guelph Storm played on home ice for Team OHL. In the west, Team WHL had huge shut out win of 5-0 in game five. Jordan Eberle had 2 goals and an assist. Game six was much closer and saw Team WHL win 2-1 with Kyle Beach having the game winner just over half way through the third period.
