Burghardt excited to be in Guelph

by Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury – One day Luke Burghardt was playing in front of 50 people at a community rink in Ajax, a week later it was in front of 4,000 fans at the Sleeman Centre: yes, things can change quickly in junior hockey.

Burghardt was home in Bowmanville a week ago when he got the phone call from Guelph Storm general manager Mike Kelly saying the team wanted to keep him in Guelph for the rest of the season.

The Storm was auditioning former first rounder Brook Hiddink at the time, but parted ways with him (he since landed in Sudbury) and decided that Burghardt had shown enough in a two-game audition to warrant the invite, which he eagerly accepted.
