Parent and Team Canada Prepare To Defend Gold
Guelph Storm defenceman Ryan Parent and Team Canada will open the 2006 World Junior Championship on Boxing Day against Finland at 6:30 pm et at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. Canada meets Switzerland on Dec. 28, Norway on Dec. 29 and concludes the round-robin against the Americans in what will be a pivotal game for Canada on Dec. 31. The top three teams in each group advance to the playoffs, but the real goal is to finish first because those teams get a bye past the quarter-final.
Canada will be seeking to win back-to-back gold at the world junior hockey championship was in 1996 and 1997 and that concluded a run of five straight.
The Canadians and the Finns are in Group A with the U.S., Switzerland and Norway, while Group B contains Russia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovakia and Latvia.
TSN will broadcast every Team Canada game during the tournament.
