RECAP l Steelheads Defeat Petes in Second Shootout in a Week
It is without a doubt that these two teams are no strangers to one another. Playing each other twice in the last week and on route for three games in nine days, these two teams are scheduled to face off once again Sunday afternoon in Mississauga. Tonight’s 6-5 SO win for the Steelheads looked to bring Mississauga in the lead for the regular season series between the Petes. The Steelheads will face Peterborough for the last time this season when we host our first home game of 2019 at the PFFC @2:00 PM.
To start off the game, the Steelheads brought a lot of pressure and a fast pace with three shots within the first two minutes. The remaining 18 were quiet on both sides apart from two Petes penalties, but the Steelheads were not able to capitalize on the man advantage. Then came centreman Keean Washkurak in the last three minutes. As Lyszczarczyk takes the shot, Washkurak picks up the rebound and pockets it, putting the Steelheads on the board first. The Petes wasting no time, just 11 seconds after the first goal they win the draw, Nick Isaacson pick up the puck, cuts to the net and finds Brady Hinz in the slot to tie it with two minutes left in the first period.
After the first intermission wraps up and shots sit at 16 for the Steelheads and 10 for the Petes, Chad Denault is called for slashing in the first two minutes and Mississauga heads on their third power play of the game. In comes Washkurak, 13 seconds into the Petes penalty scoring his second goal of the night as Lyszczarczyk also picked up his second assist with the support of Cole Carter. After being out with an injury and missing the last 83 days, Petes captain Zack Gallant hammers the puck top corner tying it 2-2. Bringing the Petes to their first lead of the game is Nick Robertson for his 12th goal of the year, followed by Cameron Butler just over the half way mark in the second. Petes forward Chad Denault is then called for cross checking and the Steelheads yet again have another power play. As Thomas Harley takes a shot from the point, Alan Lyszczarczyk gets the tip cutting the Peterborough lead to one. It is 4-3 heading into the third.
Petes returning to the ice after 40 minutes with a hot start and Chris Paquette scores just 1:34 into the period. Leave it to Petes defenceman Austin Osmanski to head to the box for two minutes as the Steelheads are only down by two with five minutes to go in the third. What do you know, Steelheads score their third power play goal of the night by Cole Schwindt. Shortly followed by the Steelheads fourth goal is Alan Lyszczarczyk registering his 15th point in his last 5 games and the game tying goal. We headed into our second over time of the week, but it solved nothing. To shoot out we go, with extra shooters, Cole Carter registers the winning goal.
The Steelheads are now on a two-game winning streak aside from the one point picked up on the December 29th, the 3-2 SO loss against the Petes.
