Weekend Preview – For A Cause
BRAMPTON, ON – The Steelheads have a busy weekend ahead, raising awareness for a great cause and facing off in two games against Windsor and Barrie.
Pink in the Rink
On Friday, October 11th, the Steelheads will host the Windsor Spitfires for their 11th annual Pink in the Rink game. In support of Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Pink in the Rink aims to spread awareness for cancer research while honouring survivors and those still battling cancer. The Steelheads will don one-of-a-kind PINK jerseys for Friday’s game and encourage fans to show their support by joining them in wearing pink.
East vs. West
Alongside a game for a great cause, the Steelheads take on the Spitfires in game one of two this season. With both teams tied at four wins and one loss within their division, the matchup between the East and West sets out to be filled with high-scoring and intense battles.
The teams faced off twice last season, with each team taking a win on the road. In the previous matchup between the two, the Steelheads came out with a 6-1 victory over the Spitfires. Adam Zidlicky will be the player to watch as he put up two goals and two assists against Max Donoso in last season’s match-up.
Riding a two-game winning streak and backed by Joey Costanzo’s impressive .981 save percentage, Windsor looks to be a true test for the Steelheads as they aim to bounce back from their first loss of the season. With Porter Martone and Carson Rehkopf each on a five-game point streak, the Steelheads have the firepower to break through. The focus will be on tightening up defensively, staying out of the penalty box, and playing a strong game.
The Spitfires currently lead the Western Conference, meaning this will be a challenging win for the Steelheads. Yet, with a strong offensive lineup, the Trout looks to give Windsor a hard battle in front of their home crowd.
This is the only time the Steelheads will host the Spitfires at home this season. You can purchase tickets online here, and don’t forget to wear pink!
Back to Barrie
Following an intense matchup against the Spitfires, the Steelheads head back to Barrie on Saturday to face the Colts. After some heated matchups in the pre-season and a regular season win in favour of the Trout, the rivalry returns to the Sadlon Arena.
The Steelheads took the first season matchup with the Colts, 4-1, with a notable performance from their starting lineup. Despite the loss, Barrie has turned their game around and added two wins to their tally since facing Brampton. With the Colt’s power duo, Emil Hemming and Cole Beaudoin, facing off against Brampton’s scoring duo from game one, Martone and Angus MacDonell, Saturday’s game is one to watch.
