Steagle Colbeagle highlighted on final Colbert Report
Prior to his next assignment as the replacement for David Letterman on the late night television circuit, Steven Colbert said good bye to his Colbert Report last night but not before an acknowledgement of the Saginaw Spirit. During his final episode, which aired on Thursday, December 18th, Colbert highlighted Spirit mascot Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle one last time.
The Spirit held a contest during the 2006-07 OHL Season to help name the new secondary mini mascot to partner with Sammy Spirit to help entertain fans at The Dow Event Center. Stephen Colbert caught wind of this contest and went on the air encouraging Colbert nation to vote for Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle, named after him. In a landslide victory, Steagle went on to become the new Spirit mascot. Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle and the Ontario Hockey League was then featured numerous times on the Colbert Report that season and became recognized internationally. Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle continues to entertain Spirit fans in the years following his historic rise to fame.
