Spirit Fall to Greyhounds 4-3
Saginaw Spirit fans came together Saturday night at The Dow Event Center to watch the Spirit take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Hockey for the Homeless Night. Spirit scoring was spread out amongst Josh Shalla, Brandon Saad and Garret Ross. The Greyhounds defeated the Spirit by a score of 4-3.
Josh Shalla got the game started right by scoring a goal just 23 seconds into the first period. He was assisted by Michael Fine. The Greyhounds scored immediately following with a goal by Nick Cousins, unassisted. The Spirit regained their lead thanks to a power play goal scored by Brandon Saad; assisted by Josh Shalla and Vince Trocheck. The Spirit would stay in the lead 2-1 at the end of the first period.
Halfway through the second the Greyhounds tied up the score 2-2 with a goal by Ryan Sproul. He was assisted by David Broll and Carson Dubchak. This was the only goal scored in the second period.
Garret Ross scored another quick Spirit goal 22 seconds after the start of the third. His goal was assisted by Vince Trocheck and Brad Walch. Matt Fuller of the Greyhounds scored their third goal with six minutes left to play in the game. Assisted by Mike Schwindt and Brett Findlay, the score is then tied at 3-3. Moments later, Justin Kea would be assessed a 5 minute major for checking from behind. The Spirit were able to kill off the first three minutes of the major penalty, but the Greyhounds took their first lead of the game when Brett Findlay scored to put the Greyhounds up 4-3. The Spirit would pull goaltender Clint Windsor but would not find the back of the net as the Greyhounds take home the victory by the score of 4-3.
