Spirit Defeat Greyhounds 4-1
Tonight, the loyal Saginaw Spirit fans packed The Dow Event Center for Special Olympics night! It was the last night for the HealthPlus player poster giveaway and a post-game player autograph session! Later, the Spirit defeated the Soo Greyhounds by a score of 4-1. Scoring for Spirit was spread out amongst three players: Carlos Amestoy, Garret Ross and Josh Shalla.
Carlos Amestoy got the game started for the Spirit by hanging around the net and picking up a loose puck to score his seventh goal of the season! Justin Kea and Dalton Young would assist Amestoy’s goal. This would not be enough to keep the Greyhounds away. 4:45 in the period Darnell Nurse would score to tie the game 1-1. At the 8:03 mark, Amestoy would find his way through the Greyhounds defense and flick in a wrist shot to land his second goal of the game! Eric Locke and Dalton Young would assist Amestoy’s goal. Moments later, the Spirit would score again, this time on the power play off the stick of Garret Ross. His twenty-fifth goal of the season would extend the lead to put the Spirit up two-goal lead
The second period was an even battle amongst the two teams. The scoreless period would keep the Spirit on top with a two-goal lead over the Greyhounds.
The third period would remain an even battle. At the 19:10 mark Josh Shalla would score on the Greyhounds empty net! Brad Walch would assist Shalla’s goal. The Spirit would skate to victory by the score of 4-1.
