The Windsor Spitfires drafted Daniil Sobolev in the 2020 CHL import draft in the first round with the 40th overall pick. Daniil was drafted to the NHL by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft in Round 5 142 overall. The Russian defenceman has added lots of grit to the Spitfires blueline. He plays a solid defensive game while jumping in on the offence to create many scoring chances. Daniil scored twice this year and added 15 assists in his first year as a Spitfire.

Sobolev is a solid two-way defenceman that will lay the body and make a play. His Hockey IQ is fantastic and he has done very well learning English to help communicate with his teammates
