PREVIEW: Spirit host Sting Saturday night at The Dow
Saginaw, MI – The Saginaw Spirit (16-27-1-0) travel back home to The Dow Event Center to face the Sarnia Sting (18-18-3-1) Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Spirit are looking for their first win of the season at home, and second overall against the Sting. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Head-to-Head
Tonight, is the fourth of eight meetings this season between the Spirit and the Sting. Sarnia holds a 2-1 advantage in the season series, with both of their victories coming at The Dow Event Center. Saginaw won the only meeting at Progressive Auto Sales Arena by a 7-4 mark back on Nov. 5. That seven-goal output was their highest of the 2021-22 season.
Last Time Out
Saginaw: On Friday evening, the Spirit were shutout for the third time this season by a 3-0 to the Guelph Storm at Sleeman Centre in Guelph. New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox made 28 saves in goal for the Spirit. Owen Bennett earned a 17-save shutout for the Storm. Matthew Papis (15), Braeden Bowman (17), and Danny Zhilkin (13) scored for the Storm.
Sarnia: The Sting never trailed Friday night, but that doesn’t mean it was easy for the Sting to rack up a 6-3 victory over the Kitchener Rangers. The Sting opened up leads of 2-0 and 3-2, but saw Kitchener come back to tie each tie. A three-goal third period led by the game-winning goal from former Kingston Frontenac Ethan Ritchie. Veteran forwards Theo Hill and Nolan DeGurse each scored twice for the Sting, while San Jose Sharks prospect Ben Gaudreau stopped 30 shots in the Sting win.
