2012 OHL Doubleheader Postponed
Due to the absence of the new collective bargaining agreement between the NHLPA and the NHL, we regret to inform you the NHL has announced the cancelation of the 2013 Bridgestone Winter Classic and the 2012 Sirius XM Hockeytown Winter Festival events which include the OHL Doubleheader on December 29th at Comerica Park. The NHL has confirmed that the next NHL Winter Classic and Hockeytown Winter Festival will take place at the University of Michigan and Comerica Park, respectively. For those fans who purchased tickets for the OHL Doubleheader through the Saginaw Spirit a member of the Saginaw Spirit ticketing staff will be contacting you regarding a refund. We apologize for any inconvenience that this cancellation has caused our fans.
Spirit President and Managing Partner Craig Goslin stated, “We are grateful to Olympia Entertainment and the Illitch Family for the invitation to take part in the Hockeytown Winter Festival and look forward to continuing our work in hosting the first ever OHL Outdoor games at Comerica Park. We are hopeful, that once the NHL and the NHLPA resolve their labor concerns, that this announcement is simply a postponement and hope to play the OHL Outdoor games at Comerica Park in the future.”
Reaction from the National Hockey League came from NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. “The logistical demands for staging events of this magnitude made today’s decision unavoidable. We simply are out of time,” said Daly. “We are extremely disappointed, for our fans and for all those affected, to have to cancel the Winter Classic and Hockeytown Winter Festival events.”
“We look forward to bringing the next Winter Classic and the Hockeytown Winter Festival to Michigan,” Daly added.
The Saginaw Spirit vs Windsor Spitfires game which was scheduled for this event will now be played at The Dow Event Center on December 29th, at 7:11pm. Spirit season ticket holders will be given the first opportunity to purchase their regular seats for this home game.
Tickets for the general public will be the same price as all other regular season home games.
