The Petes look to gain momentum leading to playoffs
The Peterborough Petes have four games remaining on the schedule, including three this week. The Mighty Maroon and White visit the Barrie Colts on Tuesday before suiting up in front of the best fans in the OHL at the Peterborough Memorial Centre for matchups against the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday’s Pink in the Rink game and the Colts on Sunday.
Peterborough is 2-0 versus Barrie this season. The first game took place on Nov. 13, 2021 in Barrie. J.R. Avon scored with 2:54 remaining on the clock to tie the game and force overtime. Tucker Robertson, who assisted on Avon’s game-tying goal, scored 3:36 into overtime to clinch a 5-4 victory for the Petes. Lock and Lansdowne served as the home for game two of the season series. The Petes blitzed the Colts in the second period with three goals to edge the visitors 4-3.
Robertson, second in team scoring with 75 points through 64 games, thrives against Barrie. He has collected one goal and three assists for four points across two games. This will be the fourth contest against Barrie for Chase Stillman. The first round 2021 selection faced the Colts twice as a member of the Sudbury Wolves before being acquired by general manager Michael Oke during the 2021 OHL Trade Deadline. In three games, Stillman has registered two goals and one assist for three points.
The Petes will have a few days to prepare for their next game against the Niagara IceDogs. Peterborough defeated Niagara two of the last three times these teams met, which included a home victory on March 3 by the score of 4-2. Then, the Petes beat the IceDogs again 24 hours later in Niagara, 6-3, which was the teams’ last meeting. The Petes pestered the net with 16 shots in the second period and converted on four of those shots to lead 5-3 heading into the final period. The Mighty Maroon and White padded their lead with another goal to secure the 6-3 win.
The Lift Lock Lads then host Barrie on Sunday for the season series finale. Peterborough no doubt seeks to build momentum heading into the playoffs and wins against Barrie and North Bay will surely bolster confidence.
The Petes will be donning their Pink in the Rink outfits for Saturday’s game. This year’s jersey features a colour combination of pink and maroon and has the breast cancer ribbon draped across the front and back of the jersey. This year’s jersey will also feature the Canadian Cancer Society patch on the left shoulder and a patch honouring Petes Alumnus and Peterborough media figure Gary “Diller” Dalliday on the right shoulder.
