Peterborough Battles Ottawa, Niagara, and Hamilton as the PMC opens up
The mighty maroon and white are set to take on familiar and old foes as the Peterborough Petes battle the Ottawa 67s on Feb. 3, Niagara IceDogs on Feb. 5, and Hamilton Bulldogs on Feb. 6.
It’s the eighth meeting with the Electric City’s archrival Ottawa. The series has been highly contested with blowouts and nail-biters paving the way. Peterborough leads 4-3, taking the last game 5-3 on home ice. Trade acquisition Chase Stillman registered two assists in that game. Since then, Stillman has recorded a point in four of five games. The Petes offence, ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference, has scored 21 more goals than the 67s, who sit 9th in goals for.
The Petes host Niagara on Saturday night for the first time this season. In the teams’ lone meeting, they fended off a late IceDogs push to win 5-4 on Oct. 30, 2021. Tucker Robertson scored twice and Michael Simpson blocked 33 shots. Stillman collected one goal and two assists for three points in two games against Niagara as a Sudbury Wolf. The Petes have three more wins and six more points than the IceDogs in the Eastern Conference OHL Standings.
For their final matchup this week, the Petes travel to FirstOntario Centre in the Hammer. Peterborough’s Robertson and Emmett Sproule have more points combined than that of Hamilton’s top duo, Logan Morrison and George Diaco. Special teams will play a huge factor in this contest. The Lift Lock lads convert on 23% of power play opportunities on the road (20GF on 87PP) while the IceDogs are 77.4% at home (19GA on 84PK).
