McIntyre Scores First Career Hat Trick as Petes Beat IceDogs at Home
It was the third home game of the week for the Peterborough Petes as they hosted the Niagara IceDogs for the final time this season at the PMC on Saturday. The Petes would be looking to tie the season series with the IceDogs after their first three games this season were all decided by one goal. Tommy Purdeller was on fire heading into the game, picking up eight points in his last four games. Zach Bowen would see the IceDogs for the second time this season, after picking up the Petes sole win against Niagara, stopping 33/36 in a 4-3 win in October.
It was a tight beginning to the first 20, with both the Petes and the IceDogs looking to get out on top. The first half of the period would see multiple chances both ways, but both Zach Bowen and Charlie Robertson were strong early. With just over five minutes remaining in the period, it would be the Petes who got on the board first. After breaking up a play, Nico Addy batted the puck to a streaking Brody Partridge who flew down the ice on a breakaway. Partridge made no mistake, wiring a shot past Robertson to give the Petes the lead.

Niagara would come right back, scoring back-to-back goals under a minute apart to take the lead heading into the break.
Peterborough regrouped during the intermission and came out ready to tie the game early. Just over a minute into the middle frame, Grayden Strohack threw a puck not net that was tipped by Ryder McIntyre. The puck snuck through Robertson, tying the game up at 2-2. After 10 minutes of back and forth hockey, Niagara would once again take the lead on a big shot by Ryan Roobroeck. Not wanting to go into the break down a goal, the Maroon and White kept pressing. With under five minutes left in the period, Braydon McCallum tipped home his 13th of the season to make it 3-3. Despite a late Niagara power play, Zach Bowen would keep the IceDogs off the board, keeping the game tied heading into the final 20.
The third period would be a wild one right from the drop of the puck. It all started with a Niagara goal to put them back in the lead with 10 minutes remaining. The goal would spark a flurry of goals, all in 36 seconds. Just 22 seconds after the goal, Carson Cameron finished off a beautiful play to tie the game back up.

Niagara would add another goal late, leading to them pulling their goalie with a minute left down by only a goal. With the net empty, both McCallum and McIntyre ended up on a breakaway together. With a chance at his first career hat trick, McCallum passed to McIntyre who scored for his own first career hat trick, giving the Petes their first win on home ice in 2024.
