Five Petes Named to NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings
Petes forwards Mason McTavish, Tucker Robertson, Jon-Randall Avon and defenceman Artem Guryev and Brian Zanetti were named to the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings ahead of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft on Friday, July 23 and on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
McTavish is ranked second amongst all North American Skaters and is the highest rated forward on the NHL Central Scouting list. The Petes 5th overall pick from the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, was loaned to the EHC Olten of the Swiss League while the OHL awaited the start of the 2020-21 season. While playing overseas, McTavish amassed 11 points (nine goals, two assists) in 13 regular season games and seven points (two goals, five assists) in four playoff games.
McTavish was named alternate captain for Team Canada at the U18 IIHF World Championship, helping the team win gold for the first time since 2013. The 6’1”, 207 lbs centre finished the tournament with 11 points (five goals, six assists) in seven games, ranking fifth overall in the tournament and tied second on Team Canada.
Guryev, who is ranked 99th amongst North American skaters, suited up in 14 OHL games, tallying two assists and 20 games with the Lindsay Muskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, amassing six points (three goals, three assists) in 20 games during the 2019-20 season. The 6’4”, 225 lbs, d-man was selected in the 2nd round, 22nd overall in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection by the Petes.
Robertson, is ranked 183rd amongst North American skaters after registering 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in 55 games with the Petes during the 2019-20 campaign. The 5’11”, 186 lbs, centre was selected by the Petes in the 4th round, 72nd overall in the OHL Priority Selection.
Peterborough native, Avon, is ranked 200th for North American Skaters. In his rookie season, the 6’0”, 180 lbs centre tallied 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 56 contests. Avon represented Team Canada at the World U18 Hockey Challenge, after being named to the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase in 2019.
Zanetti, who committed to the Petes in July, 2020 after being selected 35th overall at the 2020 CHL Import Draft, is ranked 149th amongst International Skaters. During the 2020-21 season, the 6’2”, 181 lbs defenceman ranked second amongst blueliners on the HC Lugano U20 Elit roster, tallying a career-high 29 points (nine goals, 20 assists) in 41 contests. The Swiss defenceman played in five games for Team Switzerland at the U18 IIHF International Tournament, picking up an assist.
The NHL Draft Lottery will take place next Wednesday, June 2 to determine the order of the 2021 NHL Draft. Drawing will involve 15 teams that failed to qualify for the playoffs, plus recent expansion franchise, the Seattle Kraken.
Other notable players featured on the NHL Central Scouting include Jack Bar who was selected by the Petes 52nd overall in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, and Ellis Rickwood who was selected by the maroon and white in the 2019 OHL U18 Priority Selection.
