Niagara IceDogs Make $13,000 Donation to Local Educational Foundations from Night School Game
The Niagara IceDogs are proud to have made a donation of over $13,000 to local educational foundations, Education Foundation of Niagara and Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education in the Niagara Region. The funds were raised during the team’s Night School game, on March 7th against the Erie Otters.
The funds were raised through specialty game-worn jerseys, designed by Owen McNeish-Fortune, a student in the Niagara Region, that were auctioned live post-game with the help of Luke Pasmore from Luke’s Auctions. This jersey was the first-time ever that a jersey was designed by a fan.
Cameron Snow saw his jersey sold for $700, while Ivan Lodnia, Mason Howard, and Tucker Tynan*’s jerseys sold for $500, and Cameron Butler’s jersey was sold for $475.
In addition to the game-worn jerseys, commemorative replica t-shirts and mystery pucks were also sold on the concourse for $5.00 on March 7th. Every puck was signed by a member of the IceDogs in black, however select mystery pucks were be signed in silver. Anyone who selected a silver puck won a prize. The pucks sold out prior to puck drop.
All the proceeds benefited the two local educational foundations, Education Foundation of Niagara and Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education equally. Each organization received over $6,535.
The cost of jersey production was covered by the IceDogs, to allow for 100% of the funds raised to be donated to the two foundations.
The Education Foundation of Niagara (District School Board of Niagara) and Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education (Niagara Catholic District School Board) are charitable causes that provide resources to students through bursaries and scholarships, breakfast programs, and other programs for students in need.
This week, Bones hand-delivered the cheques to each of the recipients.
