IceDogs Offense was on Display in Home Opener
The Niagara IceDogs faced off against the Sudbury Wolves for their Home Opener at the Meridian Centre. The night began with a ceremony to unveil a banner recognizing the 2018-2019 IceDogs as Ontario Hockey League Central Division Champions.
Kyen Sopa reminisced last year by scoring the first regular season home goal for the second straight year. The Wolves tallied back, which didn’t stop the IceDogs as their powerplay looked strong when Castleman buried the puck minutes later, on their second odd man advantage. Only 9 seconds later, Jake Uberti added another goal to the board to make it 3-1 less than 10 minutes into the first period. The Wolves added one more marker before the end of the period.
The scored stayed untouched during the second frame. Christian Sbaraglia stood his ground and fought off 13 shots and the IceDogs killed off one penalty.
Tucker Tynan took over in net early in the third period. The IceDogs were unfazed and responded with a beautiful passing play from Castleman, to Sopa, and finished off by Tomasino. Bruder kept the team rolling by burying one in close. Sudbury made the score 5-3 late in the third, but Phil Tomasino blew the game wide open with an empty net goal making the score 6-3.
The IceDogs are back in action tomorrow night against Mississauga at Paramount Fine Foods Centre.
The IceDogs return home next Thursday to the visiting Oshawa Generals. Tickets are starting as low as $10/person and can be purchased online HERE, or in person at the following locations:
