IceDogs Fall in Game 2 in Peterborough in Tough Battle
The IceDogs were in Peterborough for Game 2 tonight and were looking to build off of what was generally a good game in Game 1. Prior to the game, the ‘Dogs were pumped heading into the game looking forward to play in front of their fans who made the trip from Niagara.
The Petes jumped out to the early 1-0 lead, but less than two minutes later, IceDogs captain Ryan Mantha tied the game on the powerplay. Mantha scored from his usual position by the blueline after being fed by Oliver Castleman and Danial Singer. Before the end of the first, Johnny Corneil scored his first of the post season, another powerplay marker, beating Wells through traffic to take the lead. Corneil’s goal was assisted by Ryan Mantha and Ben Jones. The 2-1 lead held going into the first intermission.
The ‘Dogs confident play continued into the second period. They came out flying, but just couldn’t beat St. Catharines native, Dylan Wells. The Petes scored two quick goals to take the 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd. The IceDogs’ pressure continued into the third period, but Wells was stopping everything that came his way. Peterborough added two goals in the third. In the dying minutes of the game, Kirill Maksimov potted home his 2nd of the post season to cut the Petes lead to 2. Justin MacPherson and Oliver Castleman picked up the assists on Maksimov’s goal. Peterborough added an empty net tally to take game by a score of 6-3.
