Nurse named to Ontario U17 Roster
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club, in conjunction with the Hockey Development Centre for Ontario are pleased to announce the selection of DARNELL NURSE to Team Ontario for the upcoming 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
“Our club is extremely happy for Darnell and proud of how he has progressed since he arrived here in August. Darnell carries himself both on and off the ice in a way that will enable him to get absolute most out of his potential. He is a young man with great maturity, and elite character. He matches his skill and ability on the ice with tremendous passion and competitivness. I am certain he will be one of the leaders for Team Ontario as they defend their gold medal at the World Under 17 Championships in Windsor beginning next month” stated Hounds GM Kyle Dubas.
The Hounds 1st round selection from this past May’s OHL Priority Selection, recorded his first OHL point in a 6-5 home ice win over the Kitchener Rangers on October 1st.
Nurse and Team Ontario enter this year’s tournament as the defending champions and have won a gold medal in three of the last four tournaments. (This marks the 5th straight season a Hound has been named to the Ontario roster. It was during the 2011 tournament that fellow Greyhound Gianluca Curcuruto was part of Team Ontario in Winnipeg, MB.)
This year’s event will be held in Windsor, Ontario and will run from December 28th, 2011 to January 4th, 2012.
