Hounds stung 7 to 3

Hockey is all about capitalizing on opportunities.
The Sarnia Sting did just that on Wednesday night as they defeated the Soo Greyhounds 7-3 at the Essar Centre. The Sting did so despite being outshot 35-32 in the game.
The Key for the Sting was a goal by Nick Latta just moments after a Greyhounds power play had expired. The third period goal put the Sting up 6-3 with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation time.
“Tonight we seemed to score timely goals at good times,” said Sting coach Dave MacQueen. “They came at times when momentum seemed to change…(Latta’s goal) kind of too the wind out of (the Greyhounds) sails. They were coming. They had some energy and we were just telling our guys to relax and take a deep breath.”
Said Greyhounds coach Denny Lambert: “Obviously I’m not happy overall.”
“There’s a little bit of anger and voice-raising and all that stuff but not to a point where you’re kicking garbage cans,” added Lambert. “That’s not going to solve anything.”
Anthony Donati led the way for the Sting with a pair of goals and an assist in the win while Brandon Francisco chipped in with a pair of goals. Brandon Alderson set up three goals in the win.
“Any team that’s going to win needs secondary scoring,” said MacQueen. “We’ve got some pretty offensively gifted players. Teams are going to concentrate on the big line (Kale Kerbashian, Nail Yakupov and Tyler Peters). They’ve been on fire the last two or three weeks. Our message to our other players is that this is going to open up ice for them. They’re not going to see the top checking lines or the top two defensemen of other teams.”
The Sting first line was held to a single assist, by Kerbashian.
Brent Sullivan chipped in with a pair of assists while Brett Ritchie added a goal and an assist. Craig Hottot also scored in the win.
Jake Carrick, Carson Dubchak and Justin Thomas scored for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds continue their current homestand with a visit from the Oshawa Generals on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 7:30.
