Hounds stomp Otters 7 to 3
Getting to the Erie goaltending early was a key to the Greyhounds success on Friday evening.
Scoring on 3 of their first 5 shots, the Hounds chased Erie starting goaltender Ramis Sadikov from the net at the 9:48 mark of the first period. Carson Dubchak opened the scoring by putting a giveaway gloveside on the Erie goalie before Nick Cousins scored his 6th of the season with a blocker side shot and Vern Cooper put one low for his 3rd of the year.
The Hounds onslaught continued as Trevor Morbeck welcomed Chris Festarini to the nets with his 2nd goal of the season and then Cooper netted his 2nd of the game just 18 seconds later.
Erie would score twice, including once on the powerplay, before the 1st period would end and the Hounds lead 5-2. The Otters outshot the Hounds 25-10 after 20 minutes.
Shorly after Erie scored to make it a 5-3 game, David Quesnele scored his 2nd of the season on a rebound in front for the Hounds 6-3 lead after two periods.
Just one goal to account for in the third period as Brett Findlay would score his first OHL goal at the 4:28 mark, assists to Nick Cousins and Gianluca Curcuruto.
Chris Perugini stood tall between the pipes for the Hounds with 41 saves and his 5th victory of the season.
With the victory the Hounds improve their record to 5-6-1-0 heading into Sunday’s contest versus the Kingston Frontenacs. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the Essar Centre.
