Hounds shoot down Spitfires 5-1
Bryce O’Hagan made 32 stops and Justin Thomas had a 3-point night as the Soo Greyhounds downed the Windsor Spitfires 5 to 1 on Thursday evening at the WFCU Centre.
Windsor forward Kenny Ryan opened the scoring at the 15:21 mark of the first period, picking up a loose puck on Bryce O’Hagan’s doorstep to give the Spits their one and only lead of the game.
Windsor outshot the Hounds 15 to 9 in the first period.
The second period was all about the Hounds.
Nick Cousins notched his 3rd of the season put the teams on even terms just 3:39 into the second period converting on a play with Thomas to be beat Windsor goaltender Jack Campbell.
The Hounds would grab two more before the period ended with Justin Thomas grabbing his 2nd of the year and Brett Thompson scoring the team’s lone power play goal of the game to have a 3-1 lead heading into the dressing room after 40 minutes.
Windsor would have a two-man advantage for over a minute near the midway point of the third period but the Hounds would weather the storm. Just seconds later Daniel Catenacci fed Carson Dubchak on an odd-man rush to put the Hounds ahead 4-1.
Thomas would tally one more in the final three minutes to give the Hounds the 5-1 final.
The Greyhounds outshot Windsor 35-33.
Bryce O’Hagan was named the Red Star 1st star, while Justin Thomas was named the Red Star 3rd.
