Hounds fall 3-1 to Spirit
Defenceman Andrew Campbell fired home the lone Soo goal as the Soo Greyhounds dropped to 1-1 in this early exhibition season, falling 3-1 to the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday.
This game marked the Hounds second game in less than 48 hours while also marking the first exhibition contest of the season for Saginaw.
The game was played at the Saginaw Bay Ice Arena.
After skating to a 0-0 draw after 20 minutes, the Hounds would find themselves down 1-0, 8:48 into the second period after Tom Craig put the hometown team on the board.
The Hounds would not take long to reply back.
Just 17 seconds later, Campbells goal at the 9:05 mark tied things up. The lone assist went to David Kuchejda.
Saginaw would retake the lead at the 15:35 mark and skate into the dressing room with the lead thanks to Jack Combs marker.
The locals would press for the equalizer in the third period and eventually pull starting goalie Matt Hache for the extra attacker.
With an empy net on the Hounds side of things, Spirit forward Ryan McDonough would finish things off with the empty net marker at 18:49 to secure the victory.
These two teams will meet for the second half of this home and home series, Sunday night – 6 p.m. at the John Rhodes rink #2.
