Hounds edged 3-2 in overtime
For the third time in their last four starts, the Soo Greyhounds would be forced to overtime in OHL action.
Playing host to the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday, the Hounds saw a 2 to 0 lead erased within a 2 minute span as they fell to the Kingston Frontenacs by a score of 3 to 2.
Nick Cousins opened the scoring 3:59 into the first period on the powerplay by putting a rebound past Fronts goaltender Philipp Grubauer. Daniel Catenacci and Brett Thompson had the assists.
Then less than 2 minutes later, Thompson with his 10th goal of the season would make the Hounds 2-for-2 on the early man advantage and it was 2-0 for the locals Cousins and Gianluca Curcuruto had the assists.
Hounds lead 2-0 after the first period.
Former Greyhounds Michael Fine cut the lead to one, poking the puck past a reaching Chris Perugini to the left of his goal at the 8:05 mark to account for the lone goal of the 2nd period.
During the the final 21 minutes of the game is where Frontenac forward Ethan Werek would make his biggest impact against the Hounds. Werek scored his 7th of the season with just 37 seconds left in the game to tie things up while Kingston had the extra man thanks to pulling Grubauer from the nets.
Then in overtime, just 59 seconds in, Werek would fire one from the left wing faceoff dot high on the Hounds netminder for the game winner.
Perugini stood solid in gaining the Hounds atleast one point in the game facing 37 shots against, including 29 over the last two periods as Kingston outshot the Hounds 37-29.
With the overtime loss the Hounds record now sits at 5-6-2-0 heading into a three-game roadswing that begins this Thursday Night at the WFCU Centre in Windsor against the Spitfires.
