Hounds come home empty – Fall to Saginaw 5-2
After coming out of the gates with the first goal of the game, the Soo Greyhounds weren't able to overcome the Spirit in Saginaw and would eventually fall 5-2.
That marked the Hounds second loss in as many days after dropping a 5-4 decision to the Sarnia Sting one night earlier.
Cody Thornton got the ball rolling less than a minute into the game when he converted on a play from Kyle Wharnton and Tyler Kennedy to put the visitors up 1-0 on the power-play.
Saginaw would reply with two goals of their own, one from Sooite Zack Torquato and the other from Tom Pyatt (PP) to take a lead with 7 minutes left in the opening period.
The Hounds would not be outdone though, as at 18:58 mark David Kuchejda would notch his 4th goal of the season to send things tied up heading into the dressing room after 20 minutes.
That play was started by the hard work of Jacob Lalonde as he took the puck from his man behind the next, fed it out front to a waiting Kuchejda.
Despite holding the territorial advantage and outshooting the Spirit in the second period 13-5 in the second period the Hounds would have nothing to show for it and would actually find themselves trailing 3-2.
Two more goals in the third period by Saginaw, one into an empty net, would complete the scoring of the game and give the hometown team the win.
Sault Ste. Marie outshot Saginaw 33-25 throughout the game.
Matt Hache, making his second start of the season would suffer the loss in between the pipes for the Hounds.
With the loss the Greyhounds fall to 5 wins and 8 losses on the season and sit in 4th place in the West Division.
They'll look to shakes things off as they get ready for a big three-game homestand this coming week when they host Saginaw Wednesday, Kitchener Friday and Kingston Sunday.
